I have been following the advice of the top proffesionals on this site for about 30 days now, and here is were I stand so far
Good SH turns white if you rub a small amount between your fingers. (Please avoid unnecessary skin contact of SH, and wear a respirator when mixing or handling gaseous chemicals) The TSP I boought seems more "pure" then stor boought. ISP is expensive from my carriers walmart FTW on this one @8 gal.
What I have: My current Dodge ram Van 1 Barrel SH 12.5% @3.75 per gl shipped Plus Barrel Deposits unfortunately 60 lbs TSp @1.55 lb shipped 2 Gallons 99% ISP @8 per gl 2-250 tanks 100ea picked up need to plug were valves are i think 1-55gl tank for first run already had 1-2gpm cheap pump I had laying around to test first run
I plan to buy these at the moment: Flatbed truck or trailer for pickup. 1 Delevan Fatboy 250 shipped pressuretek 300 ft kuritek 5/8 170shipped KSCdirect 5/8 gun and tips 50+ size tips ?? charger?? Marine battery and enclosure 120 pick up drum pump 20 shipped
or perhaps instead a generator and 2-5800 delevans 160ea and the same hose
If I find a 115v fatboy I like the generator setup?? should I use larger hose for Fatboy?? How should I run inlet from top of tank, hard or soft pipe ?? Thanks for help so far guys gotta go to job, check out the pics

Go with the Fatboy @ 7 gpm if you are not sold on the Air Diaphragm Yamada or IR ARO in either the 5 (3.1gpm) or the 15 GPM Pump.
Like Mike, Myself and Chris have said repeatedly, Bigger hose is BETTER. Buy the Biggest i.d. diameter, longest run 300 ft. run of hose you can afford. 3/4" flexible ag or water hose from Goodyear or Kuriyama. 5/8" minimum " ".
Don't worry about the bulkhead shut off valves for right now.
They look to be poly and chemically resistant models based on your pics.
They will last you a minimum of 1 season before leaking (most probably). Change or plug or get new tanks with no fittings, plugs etc. when you can afford to do so, in winter off-peak season when you have down time.
See if you can have a professional with 12v wiring experience wire in a inline series fused relay and carry the wires to the back of your vehicle.
Then use a 4-way flat or round trailer plug that you can QC or disconect to your trailer (when you get one) and that way you can supply current to your fatboy from the truck battery with a auxillary battery backup ( all thermo-fused to protect wiring and system). Make sure to use HD wire and the appropriate sizes butt connectors.
What kind of chemical was in these tanks ? Is it compatable with the sh ?
I have seen chems. put into what was supposed to be a cleaned tank, and have real bad reaction. Be sue of what was in it, and how it was cleaned. Also, when we need to stop a leak in the bottom valve, we pop it off, cut a piece of stainless sheet metal to fit in the valve.
Thanks guys, they are 350 gal. I will keep the valve until it leaks and have a plastic welded cap installed. I will be using my 55 gallon tank until I get a larger vehicle or tow rig, and will carry an extra 30 gl SH in 15gl containers as well as some in the 55 gallon tank for first mix. We don't do roofs daily yet, but I think I will be using 2-3 barrels a month under our current work load. The ideal vehicle would be a flatbed (without dump) that could hold both 350 tanks one rigged for roofs and one rigged for PW services (water). As for the clean out they held vinegar for pickles and I plan to clean them out myself again with a light tsp solution and hot water rinse.
I think I will get a high end battery for my van and run it off that with the van running and carry an extra battery and charger. Or should I just set up the auxilery battery now on my van ?? I don't realy know the charging and drain loads for these kind of sytems. I do have a mechanic that will be able to handle the job at a reasonable cost. Or maybe just run a batery on the side and charge it after jobs until I get the better vehicle?? I plan to get the vehicle in June or July.
Mike were do you run the 100ft hose off of, your second Delevan ? I usually have water available at a job and was going to use my current 500 ft of 50ft sections of garen hose for that. Do you think running the entire 300ft length is to hard on the pump? If so I think 200 will do most jobs from a driveway as you have suggested. The reason I need to mix onsight for now is the load capacities of my van 97' Ram Van 1500 I also plan to hand wind my hose for now, and from readin around here think I would use a hose reel but alwys unload it and hook it up direct rather than deal with swivles running bad.
I use the 100ft section for water off the customers house, yes.
Since you already have it, then you will just need 200ft. Yes 300ft is overkill.
The FATBOY can handle it, but it's not necessary and will give you more flow loss.
200ft or 100ft is better.
I usually just use 100ft, I have two sections of 100ft on my roof hose reel.

All of these ideas work fine.
Always helps to have two of everything, in case MURPHY'S LAW happens!
My batteries charge themselves from my electric start 20hp Honda with it's voltage regulator/rectifier. I clean more houses than roofs, so most of the time I don't have to charge my batteries at night, except for the winter when it's slow.
If you don't have a electric start pressure washer w/voltage rectifier you could wire an auxilary battery in parallel with your van battery and let your van charge them both up after you are finished. You will have plenty of juice to turn your van off, and just run the delavan off the dual batteries. Use 4 gauge wire for wiring in parallel.
Thanks alot Mike you are the man. I will go with the tandem battery setup and probaly tranfer it or keep it on both vehicles when I get the new one. 2, 1 hundred foot sections sounds good for the win (might get 3 I like overkill and extras for the murphys law you mentioned)
Chris and Dave thanks for the setup advice on the phone I have listened to all you have said and am comming up with a solid game plan/parts list. I had to go with the larger pump as i have tried the "starter systems" i.e. the 5800, for lots of things before, just to upgrade a few months later. BIGGER HOSE FTW!!
Web site development is in the works for the beginning of april, by then I should be running the Delevans!! I will be testing my smaller pump and first solution tommorow with a 3/8 80ft line and 2.0gpm 115v pump, sure to be slow but I want to be done PW roofs As of TODAY!

Mike My brother has a pressure washer that has electric start, but he thinks it will damage the pump on the pressure washer. can u run your pressure washer with out running water thru it. or how do u do this, guess im ignorant on this subject. help me understand please

Kid,
What Mike S. meant was that you can wire in your Fatboy to work with the VOLTAGE REGULATOR on an electric start power washing machine, meaning, when the Power washer is used it will help to keep the battery charged for the electically powered Fatboy pump, that way you always have a charged battery for when you are doing a roof job.
This SYSTEM, as Mike S. describes, works if you are a dual identity cleaning company like Mike S. has and I have.
We specialize in cleaning Roofs, while at the same time, also work in the Power Washing trades as well.
And as such we ALSO have electric start Pressure cleaner rigs, as well as Roof Cleaning Equipment that allows us to safely clean using Non-Pressure Roof Cleaning techniques .
The High Pressure equipment is, of course, for performing concrete cleaning and other jobs requiring higher levels of pressure than what roof cleaning requires.
Anyway, the point is that you can charge your Electric deep cycle battery in several ways. You just need to pick out the best way that works with what you do.
If you go to pressuretek's site and review Bob's Fatboy assembly videop, you will get an idea of how the wiring works, then, decide if, a trickle charger put on every evening with an extension cord out to your rig, using an outside AC plug somewhere off the power from your dwelling may be ALL you need.
Keep it SIMPLE for now and go out and get the work and do the best job you can.
Don't get caught up in the trap of having your equipment be like others here on this forum or think that without a air diaphragm you can't go get the roof cleaning jobs.
With $1,000.00 - $1,500.00, you can buy right and build a simple but decent enough roof claning rig for you to go make money in this business.
Then get your insurances in place and business license and go clean some roofs.

Looks like your getting yourself DIALED in. Good job, Bill!
Since your tanks are already plumbed with bulkheads and valves you may just consider running a LARGE 1-1/4" to 1-1/2" strainer Black POLY filter (find at AG stores like Tractor Supply, etc. Fram and Implement co.s) and then plumb your rig from these existing valves and it will work fine.
Just remember to try to locate a larger SS screen filter or perferably a POLY (plastic or teflon) screen fro the Poly Filter in like 20 mesh instead of 50 mesh.
ALWAYS clean up your POLY TANK filter(s) REGULARLY and out of habit so you will not reduce flow rates and clog nozzles and pumps , etc.

So alot has changed in my parts list lol Here is what I have so far
Wilden 1/2" poly air diaphragm pump with thermaplastic diaphragm (we will see how long she lasts) 2-350gl tanks 1-55gal tank 1-pancake air compressor 115v to be replaced by 12 cfm gas powered air comp. very soon also a kynar pump on it's way 250+ft of 5/8 garden hose to be replaced by 3/4" kuritek 200ft. 1- 1/2" cpvc valve gun with barb end 2 ft long 1- 1/2" pvc valve gun with barb end 6 ft long
only using 50psi at moment till new compressor comes getting about 5gpm this way blasts out to 25ft up Can't wait to put some real air on it
Tested Apple Cider sauce solution 5 days ago on a small shed with pump sprayer covered in lichen--------Pass with flying colors tested Wilden pump transfer of SH solution ----pass Tested leak test at pressurized joints----fail lol I will fix it Tested pressure test and gpm flow of active solutin ----pass @ low gpm compared to capabilities with proper air flow
Thanks alot to Dave, Mike and Chris for all your excellent advice so far. I still like the Delevan Fatboy and may find a use as a backup or transfer pump.
This system is more expensive for a starter then I would recomend, but if you plan to do alot of roofs, already own a business and are adding this service as a serious revenue genrator go for the gusto as it will save you replacement costs in the near future as well as do the roofs faster.
Test time for me real soon can't wait to be certified with all you excellent pros
PS go vote for the LOGO PLEASE!!!!!! at this link: http://roof-cleaning-institute.activeboard.com/index.spark?forumID=123190&p=3&topicID=26562812
Just found a 5.5hp honda 8.9cfm 8 gallon unit for $450 with 10 hrs on it Picking it up Wensday and field test same day
Field test performed today at a friends house
Leak test at Pressurized joints...Pass Flow rate change test with pvc gun valve....Pass
Applied 35 gallons w/ 1.25 gallons 25% SH (got 5 gallons of this from a friend) +3/4 lbTSp, 20 oz 90%Isp squirt green apple Dawn
on 1400 sq. ft of which 200 sq. infested with lichen
Lichen loosneess test...Pass
can be removed with a garden hose nozzle but would take some time, rain is comming and I am exighted to see it fall off on it's own. Removed 5sq. ft with hose .5 hrs after application of second coat. second coat application was about 20 min. after first coat.
Job time with set up and tear down as well as Initial Mix and a water flush of the tank and equipment 1.5hrs.
First Attempt
It was a windy day and I let my friend spray most of it as I wanted to see how intuitive the system would be to a new employee. I was surprised how easy the system was for him to use with no prior experience handleing pumping equipment. He realized to not flood to much and started using the valve to control flow at the gutter edge. Both of us were able to stay dry and safe while easilly handeling the set up. We had about 2 gallons come out of 1 gutter spout and we flushed it with about 20 gallons fresh water in that area. A bag there would have solved that problem.
Sry no pics but there wasn't much algae on this one anyway mostly lichen
We sprayed the entire thing to see how much solution we needed, and also did a roof shed nearby. We started with a 20gallon mix and made 15 more to finish. 2 coats on the lichen. I spent some time spraying but mostly played ground man to get a feel for were the trouble spots would be.
