I know many of the vets already know this, but for the new guys here, there is one major thing to do for higher ranking on your website: blog everyday if possible. Blogs go a long way in helping your site rank higher. I try to blog at least 3 times per week, for both of my sites, for a total of about 6-8 blogs per week. All blogs are targeted for specific search phrases and keyword optimization in my area. It works! For roof cleaning, we have the entire first page, and half of the second page. For pressure washing, we have almost the entire first page under the local links from google. So, next time you're sitting at home wondering how to get your name out there, get off your, no.....stay on your butt and write a blog!

A true statement Kevin. Very well said.
This is a EXTREMEMLY IMPORTANT TOPIC for ANY new business, especially for the new guys starting out here cleaning Roofs using the knowledge they gain here on the Roof Cleaning Institute Of America.
Soon this business will be as competitive as in the Pressure Cleaning trades and having an edge will separate you from the pack.
I have tested this in the real world.
To see the difference in my rankings in local and national search. I blogged HEAVILY on several sites re: roof cleaning and Roof Clean USA from July 08 last year until November o8 and then stopped because of some personal and health reasons.
I basically went from #1,2,3 in my local and Georgia search on all the major search engines down into the oblivion of 4 or 5 page just by not blogging daily or like Kevin has said,Blogging just 2 to 3 times weekly at a minimum you can change the game re: your website and your business being pickup and noticed on the internet.
To prove this theory is true, I picked back up and started ferociously BLOGGING again daily just 1 month ago on several sites but mainly here on the RCIA and have quicked revived my rankings for Roof Clean USA within 1 month in BOTH local and national search.
It takes some dedication and "stick-to-it -ive-ness" but it will pay off in the final reward which is getting calls for your services and winning jobs if you have your OTHER ducks in a row.
Using a search engine Optimization tool (Software Program) can also help a great deal to help you understand the use of keywords and raise keyword relavence in your blogging to quickly get your site or blog picked up by the Google Spiders which crawl the web looking for relavent content and especially, Keyword driven, logical NEW posts on our roof cleaning subject matter / topic.
A top rated place, I, David W. of Roof Clean USA recommend is to go this site which I provide a link to here to learn about all of this The LINK is : www.marketingtips.com

We believe in having blogs too. We have TWO Tampa Roof Cleaning Blogs. I like this particular blog because of the large image size it will display, AND because it is from Google. We also have a Wordpress Tampa TILE Roof Cleaning Blog.
Great discussion guys. Just this morning, I picked up two more roofs for the first week of the season. guess where they found me? that's right, Google. I have concentrated so much on my site this past 6 months to optimize my presence in this industry, and it will pay huge dividends.
It is 2009, and if you don't have a web presence, YOUR BUSINESS WILL DIE. Within the next 5 years, phone books will be used less than they are now, with the majority of people going to the internet.
Just by blogginh twice for a specific phrase, I have now overtaken the home page of the phrase i was aiming for. Not bad for two days of blogs.
You MUST be careful !! I think it is better to have your web page aimed at your MAIN keywords! Then, have a SEPERATE Blog aimed at sub keywords, OR YOU CAN SCREW YOURSELF UP IN GOOGLE LOCAL SEARCH.
I took everyone's advice and started my own blog. It is amazing! I can't believe what a little blogging could do for my site. I don't know what I would do about roof cleaning in north port with out the RCIA. Thanks everyone!

Man, do I LOVE to PING!
After you post on your blog do as Chris suggests...PING!
You see the relevant topics bounce to the top of local search in a day, sometimes HOURS?
You know I just did a test search on Google and I made the first page with my blog entry. I did a search on "middle tennessee roof cleaning" and there is was. Â It was at #11 but at least it was on the first page. The wierd thing was that it was the entry that I made this morning.
Now this blog has been there a while but it only had 4 posts to it. I added 2 posts over the last 2 days and look at it jump. I am on the first page 2 times. Once with my blog and once with the RCIA forum.
For all those that say this will not work for you.... I joined RCIA on April 7th of this year. I like the idea of once a day and pingomatic.com
