The prices we see here in the Tampa Florida area are from 1.05 to 1.50 a Gallon. Liquid Pool Shock and 12.5 SHC are the same, the powdered chlorine, also known as Calcium Hypochlorite is NOT the same. 100 gallons of roof cleaning mix will usually clean two 2500 sq ft homes. I dont care for 100 gallon tanks personally. They are small, and hard to letter for one for adverstising you can see, and experience has shown this. One day, you will be out cleaning, and 3 to 4 neighbors will want your roof cleaning services. With only 100 gallons 1/2 used up, you are screwed. I like a 225 gallon roof cleaning chemical tank.

I know compared to Chris i am barely into first grade with my knowledge, but i will agree whole heartedly on the 100 gallon tank, my first roof with it was close to 4800 sq ft, but i paid attention here and decided to carry an extra 20 gallons in 5 gallon buckets, Mixed up the 100 gallons in the morning and went to work, i know i sprayed a little heavy that first day (probably still do) seemed like a lot of runoff , and the love stream went soft with about 150 sq ft to go, THANK the stars i packed the extra, as soon as finances allow, I'll move my gear from the wife's pick-up (That's a long story) onto a Trailer and set up something a lot less Fred Sanfordish, with a minimum of One 250 and with a lot of luck move to the Yamada pump
I am in north Arkansas and have been quoted $6.60 by the one chemical dealer that even knew what SH was. Surely there is a place to buy SH at a more reasonable price. I was in the pressure cleaning business about 20 years ago but left it for other business pursuits. Consider me a newby as I have A LOT of catching up to do.
Recently bought a new 5gal-3500 PSI washer and mounted it on a new 14' trailer with 200 gal tank. I've got a to relearn and even more to learn about soft washing roofs and other applications. Still trying to figure out what equipment I need to use for roof cleaning. ANY help and advice you old pros could give an Arkansas Hillbilly would be greatly appreciated!!!!
i just got a 55 drum of 12.5% for $2.47 a gallon here in west monroe,la. i also called pressure tek.ang got the 5850 roof kit with 200 feet of hose and trigger gun,for 362.99 with shipping, got here in two days.
Welcome to RCIA. I'm a newbe myself been here about three weeks and been reading about five weeks you need to go to the main board and start from the top and read all the topics and posts and you will see the wealth of information and use the search button ! after doing that you'll see that you won't have as many questions ,as for the SH try a pool supplier that sells to the trade only

Food for thought-
Newcomers, don't take this too harsh but, if you do, well then, prove me wrong if you don't like what I am about to suggest to you.
I will let you all do the MATH but, Remember that if you are charged accordingly $1.00 -$2.00 per gallon for SH from your LOCAL supplier, this is a FIXED part of your built in cost and WILL, and SHOULD BE factored in on every job you do.
Think about it, if you want to get a LOWER price then buy more chemical from your supplier and do more WORK and then , Re-negotiate with your supplier, IN THE FUTURE, after you have 20-30 jobs under your belt.
Meanwhile, spend your time and effort on the HIGHEST PROIRITIES in your business, not the nickel and dime of .50-.80 cents differece per gallon Come on Folks, There's money to be made and springs coming. BE Ready.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz don't put yourself to sleep trying to beat up the local supplier that doesn't even KNOW you yet or the fact that he will be selling you more chlorine thean many of his top CURRENT accounts. Let the supplier see you getting work and you bringing him constant SH business and you will get preferred pricing. But first you have to build a relationship with the supplier just like building the relationship with the homeowner.
At these prices for chemical you may have invested in $30-$50.00 in chems and gas to your job, etc.
This is still going to clear a healthy margin for you at the end of the job, UNLESS you are giving your work AWAY.
Most New Roof Cleaners start off out of the gate (because they don't know any better and because they are HUNGRY for business)
Beginning by underbidding yourselves just to get business and experience will turn around be like a mistreated dog and will eventually Bite the hand that feeds it.
And the problem with that is that once you start to offer your services at cut throat prices, you will be fighting for scraps from there on out and will be pricing yourself out of business before you even get started.
Once homeowners and businesses hear that you a charging cut rates you willl be in a bidding war from the start and evry bid will be an effort in trying to win back credibility. Instead of pricing your services like the lowest priced hack in your area.
Do your research and put together a powerful Multimedia or Powerpoint Presentation, make up quality materials andwhen you prent them to a prospect. The primary thing is for you to KNOW YOUR STUFF. Be able to answer every question with confedence and have written and pictoral documentation to support your claims.
Most Roof Cleaners on this board won't be around in 2-4 years because they don't have or will ever develop a business plan / marketing plan and a way to get some capital to both build their business right and have cash for the unexpected and for the winter months.
IMHO, you guys trying to waste valuable time finding the lowest SH and TSP price would be a lot better off by spending that time on writing down your business and financial goals and getting a solid gameplan together outlining what you forecast the next 1,2,3,4,5 years will lokk like for your fledgling ne w business.
If you don't have the money to spend for SH and chemicals and basic marketing, then you probably don't have the insurance or Business license to work in this industry. Please don't run out and do roof cleaning like a fly by night outfit as it gives a BLACK EYE to the Roof Cleaning Concept as a whole.
Better to wait a nd do it RIGHT, if evenm on a budget, then to do hack work that will only ruin the market for others.
Reducing Labor costs and having the right equipment is the key to being profitble in this business.
I am just trying to help you all out. My advice is from past experiences and I know know what NOT to do. I figure I will share it and tell it like it is rather than SUGAR COAT it . Do your homework and invest your time and effort where it will do the most good. I hope this info will be taken into account by those that need to hear it and helps you so you stay in business for many years to come.

Mountain Washer
Hello Mountain Washer,
Welcome to the RCIA,
I am the Assistant Administrator here on the forum, my name is David
What you just bought adds up to a pressure washing system. WRONG APPROACH.
Keep the equipment since you ALREADY have it for the PRESSURE CLEANING side jobs, house wash, concrete clean, deck restoration, etc. that will naturally come your way.
You DO need to read this BOARD and study what you read until it is understood.
Roof Cleaning is NOT performed with a pressure cleaner in the RCIA.
We here at RCIA, promote chemically treating with NON PRESSURE, which is the preferred methods suggested by the American Roofing Manufacturers Association.
Do some more homework by reading the threads in the pump and the chemical sections of this forum. There are many threads describing how to buy and setup the proper roof cleaning rig.
Read some more and use the SEARCH feature to lookup specific topics you want help with and then explore and take notes and write down questions and then look for the answers.
My advice to you, READ, READ< READ.
I am not trying to be a hardazz, but you will understand and learn more and retain it by just doing some more research on your own and reading this board and you will answer MOST every NEW Roof Cleaning Apprentice question you may have or may be thinking of.
Thanks for your reply. I didn't take your reply as you being a hardazz, just trying to be helpful and answer some of my questions.
I understand that pressure washing is not the way to wash a roof. I intend to clean houses, concrete, and wood ect also. I bought my first pressure washer in 1984 and used it until 1990 when I sold it. I was doing a lot cleaning for the RR on some of their locomotives and burr cranes.
This is a great forum to learn about non pressure cleaning and I will hang around as long as you guys let me.
Hey Mountain Washer I noticed you are not far from me , I will tell you what I did and you can decide if you want to do the same. Being from a small community and knowing people I just called the water treatment plant and they gave me a postive lead. I found it for $1.80-$2.09 depending on quanity.

Welcome Kid from ELITE,
Glad to have you on RCIA. It's nice to see others offering to help fellow roof cleaners in the field.
That is part of what this great site is all about.
Well this would be my first post. Had to post something or I'll never get any status here. I have been reading the older threads on here and PWI and have had just about every question answered in the last 4-5 weeks.
I just about have my setup complete and about to start my marketing blitz for spring and summer.
Well HELLO all and look forward to talking and sharing ideas with you all in the coming months.

Hello reNEWed Surfaces!
Welcome to the RCIA Officially!
Thanks, shane88, for your first post here on RCIA.
Hope you will post MANY more posts, pictures of your roof jobs and equipment setup and new comments and valid questions in the future!
You are living proof that just by reading this and other boards and the posts they contain, you can aquire ALL the BASIC knowledge you need to setup a roof cleaning rig and understand chemical application and marketing and more. Now, all you need is to get some roof cleanings under your belt and the experience will come.
That is REALLY terrific, great to have you on board the RCIA forum.
Respectfully,
David W. - Asst. Admin. RCIA -Operations Mgr.- RC-USA
Thanks Dave. I look forward to sharing ideas with you guys and hopefully posting lots of pics.
Have really been looking forward to getting back in the cleaning/washing biz. Did it for a while in college for beer money, but didn't really take the approach of running a profitable business. Paid for alot of beer though. Ha Ha

out here here we get it anywhere between 1.30-1.48 per gallon 12.5% our western nc guys get it 15% for aound like 1.43 or4 gallon. There are family owned companies in nc called ice or industrial cleaning supply that are located in a few big cities. They are con artists everything they sell from chems to equipment is mark up at least 150%. All the local do it alls around here order barrels of sh from them at about 220.00 per drum because they can't get the good bulk rates and deliveries. Fortunatly we can get 18 wheeler deliveries of as much as we want, so if any nc guys need to save money, start buying chems from us. we can pretty much send anywhere.
I was talking to Vinny from long Isalnd today...{ great guy by the way } and I asked him a question. If a customer asked you on the phone if you used bleach on the roof, what would your answer be? Anyone? And why please..........
