Before making the switch to no pressure roof cleaning we would blow them out with water. We still keep the pressure washer on the trailer so I will still clean them like that. I wonder if a wet dry vac wouldn't be a better option. We keep several cans of rustolem black and chrome on the truck and as a bonus to the customer we give a quick spray to the hood vents and other roof penitrations if the roof boots are bad we refer them to a local roofer. ifeel the paint makes the job look better.

Pine needles are a serious pain also when they get in those old style aluminum awnings,...seems like you can rinse forever!!!

I think $1.00 a ft for rancher and $1.50 for two stories gets you in the ball park,....depends on your location. I've done so many free ones,....I would be rich by now if I were charging!!

About 50% of the people here have rain gutters so not too much work but I have done a lot of that and I do have some cool tools to make the job a little easier.

Here it is usually packed in, wet and muddy leaves, not many pine trees here. Sometimes you have plants growing in the gutters.

I scrubb the outer part of the gutters to remove the black streaks. It makes a world of difference.

There is MONEY cleaning gutters here in Tampa.
I used to have an employee that would do it "on the side".
Problem was, he made so much money cleaning gutters in Tampa�I couldn't afford him!

Super Gutters are a real pain to clean.
The super gutter is the one between the pool cage and the roof.

It can EASILY take just as long to clean one as it does t do a roof.
More IF the gutter has Pine Needles, like many in Tampa do.

If you blow the gutter, it goes all over the screens, and one will play hell getting Pine needles out of screens.

I would like to see a discussion on gutter cleaning.
It is another up sell to roof cleaning.

Of course, there are those who include gutter cleaning with roof cleaning, a mistake IMHO.

Gutter cleaning can make a big difference in closing the deal.Always include it in the price. If your price is high tell the customer that you are also cleaning the gutter. This gives you a good reason for dropping the price. Always give a good reason for the drop or they will think that either you are crook or desperate, both a sign of weakness. If they sign up with no mention of gutter cleaning , clean the gutter anyway. You charged for it and the customer will feel like they got something extra.WIN-WIN

We have (2) types according to the season:

(Spring and Summer) (03/15 - 11/10)
When we start off cleaning out all gutters by (Hand), we use buckets and bags to put the debris into.
Then, we check out all downspouts to make sure they are opened and flowing.
If the downspouts are clogged we will un-clog them.
Usually the water hose will do the trick. If it does not, we will either rod out the downspout or disassemble them to get them cleared.
Once all gutters are cleaned and downspouts are opened we will use the water hose to flush out all gutters to get them as clean as could be.
This also helps us out to catch the problem areas that we will call to your attention.
And since we do (minor) repair we may even assist in this issue as well (if needed).
(Late Fall) (11/10 - 12/31)
Same as above except in the (Late Fall) we do not use the water unless it's necessary.
We will get (Downspouts) opened if water is not available. We also do assessments or repair.
Q: DOES KEVIN'S GUTTER CLEANING OF TAMPA BAG ALL DEBRIS?
Depends on how much, or how little you wish us to do.
Many customers wish to save money, and remove and bag debris themselves.

In most cases we even use brown bags (environmental bags) so the (local) service will haul it away.
Heck, we will even sweep around your property when done.

By the dwelling square footage and overall size.

If there is an emergency we strive to get to your property within (24) hours.

No!! We offer (3) different ways to service your gutters. (Upon receiving written authorization.)

Just show up during business hours.
Call client beforehand.
Usually done the day of.
Phone client to set up time/date when available to arrive.
Unless there is a (Repair) issue, we prefer the client is there.
We will bill you in full upon work done.

Thats cool Chris!! For me, gutter cleaning is a separate service that only includes the inside. But, I also sell house washing and the outside of the gutters are included in that price. In reality though I do alot of gutter clean outs for free when I'm roof cleaning, simply because the ladder is already above the gutter and I can see they need cleaned.

As far as being an upsell I think anytime you can add to your services with existing equipment is a good thing. The more services you advertise gives customers more reasons to call you for one thing and end up buying services xyz also. Just get on the property!!

If they are not in business then this is a good indicator as to why gutter cleaning should be charged for. You are absolutely right Chris, that gutter cleaning should not be thrown in with the roof cleaning,I have done this in the PAST and it bites me more times than it is beneficial foe me and my business. How I do things are different than others. "Different strokes for different folks". Live and let live. You know what I mean in that regard. JMO

For Roof Clean USA in Thomasville, GA - I like to offer incentives to the customer and I will build VALUE and then upon selling, use closing tools to win the bid.

First, make a FRIEND, then make the Sale.

Part of that is the process of selling I use BELOW.

For me I have learned that GIVING AWAY to much cheapens the VALUE of the service being PERFORMED.

What I use in terms of techniques are not new, I learned them from other PRO's before me and they are what many here already know in sales, but for the sake of some who may not know what I am referring to..

It is called "take away's" and "add on's"

I agree wholeheartedly that Gutter Cleaning can add to your bottom line.

HOWEVER, it DOES take time........and time, my friends is money.

And, add to that, the FACT that Gutter cleaning is not exactly easy work and is in some cases as Chris mentioned, as in SUPER GUTTERS, can be a real challenge and take up a LOT of time to do correctly OR can have you spending a lot of time fixing a problem such as "blowing pine straw or needles ALL over a pool cage" and trying to clean that mess up.

For us, On average, Most gutter cleaning takes 1-2 hours at a minimum.

By the time you figure in man hour(s), setup, breakdown, drive time, additional wear and tear (depending on how you perform gutter cleaning) you have invested time and money into something some give away OFTEN for FREE.

This may be good for some and in some situations I would say it MAY be something to consider if the benefits are a WIN_WIN but to me it just doesn't make financial sense.

Personally, for me, If I want to do CHARITY WORK then for us we donate our time to a LOCAL charity or give a percentage of our proceeds to clergy or our local religious affiliation and earmark it accordingly.

It's NOT that we are selfish, but rather, we know our customers go to a job or own their own business and do this so they may earn INCOME.

Accordingly, I feel that unless I am dealing with a CHEAPSKATE, they want to PAY me for cleaning their GUTTERS as they don't GIVE away their work day and can respect that I cannot give away my time either.

I take the position that they WANT to pay me and are glad to do so.

They will do this so that the next season or following year I WILL BE IN BUSINESS to professionally PERFORM the services such as non pressure roof cleaning, gutter cleaning and pressure washing for them in Thomasville, GA 31757 and Tallahassee, FL and will BE AVAILABLE in the best most reliable way and they will actually appreciate me standing my ground on the subject of NOT giving away my time and resources as a "FREE-BEE"

If you have employees at $8-$15 per hour or on salary, it still adds up to giving away services that can be leveraged INSTEAD for a better total cleanup pkg. i.e. roof cleaning, house wash, concrete cleaning incl.sidewalks,driveway, eves. cleaned with or without gutter clean.

I think there may be some areas of the country that have H.O's that almost expect you to clean there gutters for free.

This has been because someone years ago didn't have faith in themselves that they could sell this as a legitimate service and DISCOUNTED or GAVE this service away to much to often and did not position themselves to BUILD the Value, the difficulty level, and the SAFETY factor into the close.

I feel gutter cleaning IS underrated, it is additional work and is a GREAT add on, or UP SELL and should NOT be cheapened by throwing it in, unless it is of benefit for you and the homeowner. Call me, whatever but I like to pay my bills, ON TIME.

It's great to "Piggyback" this GUTTER CLEANING service with others you may offer so you can leverage and position yourselves as a "Solutions Oriented company"

I think it is great to get your workers up on the net with their own page such as what Chris has done to help KEVIN to add to his additional income. That shows an employee that they are NOT just a number on their social security card, but are a CARED about, INTEGRAL part of your roof cleaning enterprise and it ALWAYS helps to have some extra appointments for when you or you workers are things are NOT so busy at slow times of year.

Honestly, we have cleaned our fair share of gutters and most are WORTH getting paid for.

I can see if you have an elderly couple or single or a singlestruggling mother with children who needs a helping hand and you do RANDOM acts of kindness but we have to get paid to pay all of our overhead too.

Good idea Pat. We offer a "Complete Exterior Home Makeover", which includes roof, gutters, house, windows, and driveway & sidewalks. Usually around 20-25% off. When doing it that way, we take a $450-500 roof job, and multiply it!
